About Us
Richards Castle Soap Box Derby has been an annual event since 2004. Every June home made carts race against the clock down Hanway Common in the village of Richards Castle, on the Herefordshire/Shropshire border. The event, which is organised by volunteers has raised over £150,000 for local charities.
2026 THEME
In 2025 we added a new element to the Soap Box Derby with our novelty cart class. Who doesn't love the novelty carts as they fly down the hill?
We'll be announcing the theme for 2026 in January.
Thanks to Sponsors McConnel in 2025 there were some amazing entries to this year's novelty cart class.
Spectators voted for their favourite cart by dropping a token into the voting tubes.
The winner was The Rocking Rooster, and the runner-up up Orleton School PTA.
